April 7 is marked as the "World Health Day" that is the "Global Health Awareness Day".


What describes a good Health? 🤔

The World Health Organization defines health as

A state of optimal physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity

Health is dynamic, ever-changing process that can vary from person to person. It is the fundamental right of every human being to enjoy the highest attainable standard of health without any discrimination.

It is essential that we spread health awareness to all the individuals irrespective of gender, age, race, caste, class, religion, origin, political belief and socio-economic status. However, in order to achieve health one needs to understand the seven dimensions of wellness that is laid on common grounds.

The Seven Dimensions of Wellness

There are 7 dimensions of wellness that should not be neglected for pursuing a good health and improving the quality of life of every individual.

Physical Wellness

This is an aspect that focuses on variety of healthy behaviors. Ensuring that you are eating right, are physically active and are refraining yourself from harmful and damaging habits are the key goals to a good physical health. Staying alert to listen to your body signals is the preventive method to protect yourself from diseases and injuries with looping in regular medical check ups as and when required.


Social Wellness

This aspect is about interactions! These interactions bring a lot of learnings as we deal with different people in our community or globally. Challenges that we face in general is meeting expectations and demands of our roles at a given situation or towards a particular group or an individual. It is important that we learn good communication skills, nurture relationships, contribute to the society, be a good listener, share talent & skills and create a support network that can help each other in times of difficulties.

Spiritual Wellness

We at times are directed by various guiding force, beliefs, principles and values that allow us to take a pause, think and then take the next move. Faith, hope and commitment provide a sense of meaning and purpose of the individual's existence. This requires a great application of patience, positivity, alertness, awareness, involvement, inquisitiveness, acceptance, gratitude, self-respect and trust.

Intellectual Wellness

Intellectual wellness denotes creativity, innovation and exercising mental activities. Improving our skill set, propagating the knowledge allows one to practice continuous learning and stay mentally active to exhibit the intellectual qualities.

Environmental Wellness

The health of the planet depends upon us. The better we treat the planet "earth", the better it shall reflect positively on our health. This involves establishing a sustainable lifestyle, protecting and efficiently using natural resources, eliminating the waste products and pollutants in the right way, minimizing the chemical use, avoiding misuse of electronic resources. There is a lot of influence of the environmental factors on our health too that can create a strong impact on our genetics and affect the gene expression.

Occupational Wellness

Occupational wellness is the ability to achieve a balance between work and leisure in a way that promotes health, a sense of personal satisfaction and is (for most people) financially rewarding. It is important to set small goals, create a vision, explore and upskill, get organized, retrospect, manage the stress levels, stay focused, stay motivated and take short breaks to rejuvenate and improve performance.

Emotional Wellness

Emotional wellness is a dynamic state that works hand in hand with physical, social, spiritual, intellectual, environmental and occupational dimensions of wellness. It is the ability to successfully handle life's stresses and adapt to change and difficult times. Staying optimistic, seeking for support or advises, learning from experiences, practicing stress management techniques, staying empathetical, learning time management skills, accepting and forgiving yourself improves your emotional state of wellness. Based on these 7 dimensions of wellness, we can with ourselves and with others imbibe the right kind of health development, building a fairer, healthier world!
